Artist's Statement
As a child I loved to colour and draw and paint and play the piano and create stories and write songs... As an adult I still loved to do these things, but I found myself making other choices. When I turned forty I asked myself, "What would I do differently with my life if I knew I only had one year to live?" I answered by picking up my brush and spending more time with canvases and paint amidst my family's activities in our condo. Lucky for me the cat and dog enjoy sharing their space with my art supplies, my husband tolerates splashes of paint on the walls and floors (yes, it gets messy) and my son values his mother expressing her gifts.
In my artwork you will see that I favour bright colours, layers and movement. I love seeing the motion in a stroke that reaches from one side of the canvas to the other, reiterating the energy that our landscapes provide when we allow ourselves to be immersed in them. Like being "connected" when I climb a mountain, or swim in a lake or walk along a beach, I "be" when I paint. How does it get any better than this?
